What is FT Teams? 

Fast Twitch Teams is an athletic program designed to enhance your child’s athletic performance through developing their Speed, Power, Agility, Strength, Balance, Coordination, and Conditioning. Alongside these physical qualities, the program also aims to develop non-specific sports skills such as cooperation, teamwork, resilience, discipline, and recovery techniques.

How? 

All athletes have access to two 45 minute classes per week. The first session focuses on Speed and Agility whilst the second session focuses on Strength and Power.

Training is completed in 8 week blocks to ensure adequate time to adapt to training. Testing will be completed at the start of the training block to determine the athlete’s baseline and assign the athlete to an appropriate training group, whilst post tests are completed at the end of the 8 weeks training block to track progress.

The Fast Twitch Teams program is divided into 3 training groups: Rookie, Pro and Elite. *Athletes who exhibit exceptional performance may be promoted to a more advanced group.*

Rookie – (12 and under)  this is for junior athletes entering the sports arena, basic jumping, running and landing mechanics will be covered. Emphasis is on fun and quality practice.

Pro – (13-16) this is for athletes looking to enhance their efficiency to support sport performance. Running, jumping and landing mechanics will be refined and developed.

Elite (17+) this is for athletes looking to specialise in a given sport and want to give attention to enhancing their overall running mechanics and power output.

Why should you train athletic skills outside of sports practice? 

Sports are demanding on the body and unfortunately incur various injuries. At Fast Twitch we want to support your athletes to have a long and sustainable career in sport by preventing those injuries in the first place. Research suggests that if strength training is performed with adequate supervision that is age appropriate, it is likely to reduce the chance of sports related injuries (Faigenbaum et al 2000. cited Hiedt et al 2009.) Therefore adding strength training to your athletes training program will help support career longevity.

By teaching athletic skills in isolation from sport practice more time can be spent focusing on proper running and jumping mechanics. It also teaches skills that can benefit all sports, therefore if your child chooses to pursue a new sport only the specifics of that sport need to be established as a good athletic base will have been formed.

We also work alongside your child’s sports club. Our goal is to compliment sports performance rather than overload our athletes. That is why we contact athletes’ sports clubs to determine key peak and deload periods but also to keep the clubs updated with training going on at fast twitch.

Finally, developing sports performance will build your child’s self confidence.

When? 

Classes run from Monday to Friday 4-7pm.

When your child signs up they will receive a 45 minute 1:1 assessment, where your child will undergo some baseline testing to ensure that your child is placed in an appropriate group that is at an appropriate level for their ability.
